UD 722 Karmabhumi: The City as a Field of Action
Instructed by María Arquero de Alarcón
Winter 2020

This studio challenges the progressive  governmental appropriation of  the Gandhian legacy in Ahmedabad, India. Reclaiming  “the city as a field of action to exercise dissent and assert citizens’  rights” the studio instigates a critical reconsideration of the designer’s role in the making of memorials and the celebration of collective memory. Student work elicits “urban strategies that negotiate a plurality of ideas and interests in the critical making of new collectivities and civic institutions.
