UD 714 Virtual Encounters-I
Instructed by Cyrus Peñarroyo
Fall 2018
“Gone are the days when the only way to get a bird’s eye view of your favorite city was from the window of a penthouse apartment or helicopter. Now you can soar above the skyline by simply opening Google Earth on your desktop or mobile phone.”
– Google
The exercise quantifies and qualifies the city in new ways by asking students to apply these techniques to the design of a “real” site. Students will use aerial images of the typologies from Queens and/or the Metropolitan Area of Detroit, and manipulate and exploit the “reality” effects, to consider how residential, civic, commercial, and/or recreational programs might fit into your scheme. Three full color images will be produced at different scales.
